Antique Restoration

Specialists in antique furniture in Cambridge, Andrew is able to undertake the varied and multiple skills demanded in furniture restoration and conservation.

During restoration, by using sympathetic and ethically appropriate materials we are able to preserve & conserve the intrinsic integrity of the furniture. By careful choice of period timber we endeavour to match the colour, figure of wood grain and, in the case of old surfaces, patination, of the piece. The term patination refers to the accumulation of dust, soot, wax polish, finger marks, etc in addition to the effects of light on the surface of the material in question. In essence the very evidence of acquired age, character and most often, value.

Following a visit to appraise the furniture & discuss the customer's requirements a written estimate is prepared detailing the work required, timescale and cost. Typically work is undertaken in the workshop, although working on-site can be arranged. We offer a full restoration service that includes insurance and the collection and return of customer's furniture.
